It’s difficult to choose just one design project to this assignment because I think all design projects have their own special characteristics. Some ones are funny, some others are beautiful, and all of them are really interesting! But I decide to present my Design 1’s first project because I think it’s my favorite! And it’s funny, nice and exciting at the same time!
It is a 16mx16mx16m cube planned to be a house for an artist. The main idea is the house is not just for living but also for working. Everyone could choose a different artist: chefs, dancers, singers, musicians, cabinetmakers, sculptor, photographer…
The artist I chose is a fashion designer! So he or she needs lot of showing spaces! This house has a boutique, a runway or catwalk, a studio, a backstage, and all the elements that a house has of course!, like kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and bathroom… And also need storage spaces obviously!
But the location of this house gave me another design challenge! It only has two open facades, because the two other are detached! So the ventilation and light had to be controlled by these two open facades! By the other hand, the house has a beautiful view to a big square! And it’s close to the sea!
I thought the house’s walls have to be made in(of) concrete except the walls around the catwalk; I thought those are going to be made with glass bricks. The windows are going to be made in float glass. The entire artist’s house would count with wood finish and really brilliant marble floors that make the boutique, catwalk and the living space look more elegant!
I design the house based on a framed reinforced concrete structure, with 8 m column’s span.
So that’s my project, I hope you enjoy the description of my fashion designer’s house! I really passed (had) a good time designed (designing) it! It is amazing what a 16x16x16 m3 can contain! I hope someday I can see this house built! J
